Hearing God’s Call for Life, Part 3

Hearing God’s Call for Life, Part 3

by Kevin M. Baker on October 21, 2020

Key Scripture: Ephesians 4:1-3

In the 3rd century, as Christianity became more institutionalized, the Church began to make a distinction between the people who devoted their lives to religious vocations (clergy)—and everybody else (laity). This division is not Biblical. In the New Testament, the original Greek words “kleros” and “laos” both referred to the people of God, not separate groups or classes of leaders in the Church. In our Scripture verse from the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus, it is clear that every individual—not just ordained pastors—has a calling from God.
