What is Jesus trying to say by telling us that we must love our families less than we love him? Ask a child, “Which is more important: your mom (or dad) or a glass of water?” The usual response is the former. But the answer changes when they are asked, “Which couldn’t you survive without for two weeks?” This is Jesus’ point: He wants us to distinguish between the source of life and the substance of life. Jesus says he is the very source of life. Not just anyone can make this claim. But Jesus was not just a religious leader, not just a great teacher, not just a wise man, not just a prophet. Jesus could say this because he is God in the flesh.

Jesús dice que él es la fuente misma de la vida. No cualquiera puede hacer esta afirmación. Pero Jesús no era sólo un líder religioso, no sólo un gran maestro, no sólo un hombre sabio, no sólo un profeta. Jesús pudo decir esto porque él es Dios en carne.
