Parents must illustrate obedience in daily life. In Deuteronomy 6:7-9, Moses instructed the Israelites to talk about God’s commands with their children in the morning, throughout the day and at night. Likewise, we must help our children connect everyday experiences—doing homework or chores, playing sports or music—to obeying, loving and enjoying God. And it’s O.K. to share our own failures of obedience with our kids. Take the opportunity to talk about your struggles and mistakes so they can learn from them. Many of us read the Bible and wonder about the practical applications. It’s this simple: Ask yourself “What in the Scriptures can I obey today?” Understanding comes through obedience.

Los padres deben ilustrar la obediencia en la vida diaria. En Deuteronomio 6:7-9, Moisés instruyó a los israelitas a hablar de los mandamientos de Dios con sus hijos por la mañana, mientras realizaban sus rutinas diarias y por la noche. Del mismo modo, tenemos que ayudar a nuestros niños a conectar todos las actividades, hacer deberes o tareas, deportes o la música, a obedecer, amar y disfrutar de Dios. Y está bien que compartir nuestras propias faltas de obediencia con nuestros hijos. Aprovecha la oportunidad de hablar acerca de tus luchas y de los errores para que puedan aprender de ellos. Muchos de nosotros leemos la Biblia y se preguntan acerca de las aplicaciones prácticas. Es así de simple: Pregúntate a ti mismo “¿Qué hay en las Escrituras que puedo obedecer hoy?” La comprensión llega a través de la obediencia.
