What We Believe

About God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal and are one God.(Genesis 1:1,26-27, 3:22; Psalms 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
About Eternity
People were created by God to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. (John 3:16, 14:17; Romans 6:23, 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Corinthians 2:7-9)
About Human Beings
People are the supreme object of God's creation. We are created by God for a unique relationship and interaction with Him. We are made in the spiritual image of God, which means we are created to reflect certain characteristics of God’s nature. Although every person has tremendous potential for reflecting that nature and doing great good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God, called “Sin.” This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. (Genesis 1:27; Psalms 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2)
About Jesus Christ
At the heart of the New Testament message is God's incarnation in Jesus of Nazareth. Scripture witnesses to the redeeming love of God in Jesus' life and teachings, his atoning death, his resurrection, his sovereign presence in history, his triumph over the powers of Sin and Death, and his promised return. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over Sin and Death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. (Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)
About Salvation
Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must receive it. We can never save ourselves or our world from the consequences of Sin. We don’t have the power to overcome Sin or make up for it by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness and new life can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved - i.e. we are forgiven, reconciled to God, and transformed to be like Jesus and to experience new and abundant life in Him. Eternal life with God begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his or her life by faith.(Romans 6:23, 5:1; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26)
About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation and is the transforming power that makes us more like Jesus in how we think, feel, love, and live. The Holy Spirit is not only the power behind the Christian life, but is also our Comforter in times of trial, our Wisdom for understanding spiritual truth, and our Guide for following Jesus and doing what is right. In order to fulfil the purposes of God in the world, the Holy Spirit gives every believer at least one spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under the Spirit’s control daily. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; Romans 12:6-8; 1Corinthians 2:12, 3:16, 12:1-31; Ephesians 1:13, 4:11, 5:18; Galatians 5:25)
About the Assurance of Our Salvation
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity as he or she holds firm in faith to Christ. The grace and power of God maintains our salvation, not the self-effort of the Christian. The Bible promises we can expect to receive assurance of our present salvation as the Spirit “bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” (John 10:29; Romans 6:3-5, 8:16; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 6:4-5, 7:25, 10:10,14; 1  Peter 1:3-5)
About the Bible
The Bible is the Word of God and contains everything necessary for salvation. It is a reliable witness to God’s self-revelation to the world and His interaction with human beings. The Bible was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Illumined by tradition, reason, and experience, the Bible is the primary source of truth for Christian belief and practice. It is received through the Holy Spirit as the authoritative rule and guide for the Christian life and is “useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (Psalms 119:105,160; Psalms 12:6; Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13)
About the Church
The Church is the Body of Christ - those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ, have been baptized, and are following Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. This faithful community of believers was brought into existence by the Holy Spirit to be a powerful expression and demonstration of Christ’s ongoing life and ministry in our broken world. The Church, as she remains faithful to Jesus, and lives out her calling to help people find their way back to God by “going and making disciples of all nations” has the great privilege of revealing the Kingdom of God on earth. Through the regular celebration of Holy Communion, we participate in the risen presence of Jesus               Christ and are thereby nourished for faithful discipleship until Jesus returns in final triumph over Evil, Sin and Death. (Matt 16:18, 18:18, 28:19-20; Acts 2:1-4, 41-47, 14:23; Rom 12:4-8; 1 Cor 12; Eph1:22-23; 1 Tim 3:1-13)
About Discipleship
All who respond to salvation are also called to discipleship - no exceptions, no excuses. Discipleship and disciple-making go hand in hand. With laser focus, it was Jesus himself who made disciples who could make disciples…and then Jesus commanded us to do the same. The gospel of Jesus Christ dictates the kind of disciples we are and the kind of disciples we make. Adisciple is a person who is following Christ, being Changed by Christ and is committed to the mission of Christ. Disciple-making is entering into relationships to help people to trust and follow Jesus, which includes the whole process from conversion through maturation and multiplication. (Matthew 28:16-20; John 20:21; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Mark 8:34-38)
