Key Scripture: Matthew 6:1-13
After laying the foundational principles, Jesus moves on to the practice of prayer. In Matthew 6:9, Jesus instructs his disciples in “how” they should pray, not “what” they should say. The rote recitation of the Lord’s Prayer isn’t what Jesus intended. Saying these words isn’t wrong, of course. But it is a problem if (1) we don’t pray privately and creatively during the week, and/or (2) we let the recitation of the Lord’s Prayer together become the standard by which we evaluate Sunday worship. It is meant to be a pattern—not only for prayer but also for our lives—to help us connect relationally with our Heavenly Father.

Después de poner los principios fundamentales, Jesús pasa a la práctica de la oración. En Mateo 6:9, Jesús instruye a sus discípulos en el “cómo” deben orar y no “lo que” ellos deben decir. La recitación memorística del Padre Nuestro no es lo que pretende Jesús. Al decir estas palabras, no está mal, por supuesto. Pero hay un problema si 1) no oramos en privado y de forma creativa durante la semana, y/o 2) dejamos que la recitación del Padre Nuestro juntos se convierta en el estándar por el cual se evalúa el culto dominical. Está destinado a ser un modelo, no sólo para la oración, sino también para nuestra vida, para ayudar a conectar la relación con nuestro Padre Celestial.
